Portugal ranks 7th in the EU for the most renewable energy sources.
Portugal achieved 35% renewable sources in final energy consumption in 2023, solidifying itself as the 7th country in the European Union (EU) with the highest utilization of these energies, above the European average of 24.5%.
With 35% of renewable energy sources, Portugal surpasses the European average.
According to Eurostat data, as reported by Notícias ao Minuto, Portugal ranks 7th among EU member states in the use of renewable sources in final energy consumption, reaching 35% in 2023, above the EU average of 24.5%.
According to the European statistical service, the percentage of renewable sources in the bloc increased in 2023 compared to the previous year's 23%, while in Portugal the value rose compared to the 34.6% recorded in 2022.
Among the Member States, Sweden leads with 66.4% of renewable sources in final energy consumption, followed by Finland (50.8%) and Denmark (44.9%).
Portugal ranks 7th, with 35% of energy from renewable sources, consolidating its position among the most advanced countries in this area.
At the other end of the table, the countries with the lowest proportions of renewable sources are Luxembourg (11.6%), Belgium (14.7%), and Malta (15.1%).
At the European level, the EU is still 18 percentage points away from achieving the goal of reaching 42.5% of renewable sources in final energy consumption by 2030.
